Alumni Highlight: Michon Gallaway '21

Alumni Highlight: Michon Gallaway '21

Michon double majored in History and Philosophy, and they credit their passion for the subjects to two influential TNA teachers: Ms. Kathryn Hardy (U.S. History) and Mr. Jeff Monsma (Ethics and Religion).

“In both of their classes, I realized that a lot of the current events connected to things in history, which really sparked my interest to learn more,” said Michon. “I also want to encourage students to think critically about things that may or may not pertain to them.”

Outside of academics, Michon has a wide range of creative hobbies. They enjoy writing action adventure and historical fiction, and they bring that same creativity to photography.
“I like to create stories with my photography! I recently asked my friends to do a photoshoot at an art museum where we were being art by mimicking the exhibited paintings and sculptures,” said Michon.

Michon also trains in Olympic-style recurve archery and recently took part in a 70-meter competition. They were inspired to take up the sport after hearing stories about their grandfather’s involvement in archery. While attending Pitt, they often practiced her shot at Trees Hall.

“This latest competition was challenging because I had to make some changes to my bow for that distance,” said Michon. “I’ve literally doubled my score since my first competition, and I plan to continue competing even outside of college.”

Whether in the classroom or on the archery range, Michon is focused, passionate, and ready to make a lasting mark.
